This extremely cool 1941 Plymouth street rod is one of those cars that takes time to appreciate. At first glance, it appears to be just another custom painted street rod with some of the usual tricks. Then you look under the hood and see all that chrome, you glance inside and see the well-executed interior, and check out the undercarriage and find out how well done this car really is. The effect is a car that doesn't blow you away all at once, but takes its time!
The best customs are those that blur the line between what is original and what has been modified. To see all the changes on this beautiful coupe, you'd really need to put it side-by-side with an original car, but some of the big changes are easy to spot. The easy stuff includes shaved door handles, tail lights, and suicide doors. The paint is about a mile deep, and is a medium purple pearl that has just enough sparkle in it. The custom striping really pops, and all of the chrome and stainless has been buffed and polished to a beautiful shine. The “V” butt windshield is also a nice touch. The doors fit exactly, the hood shut lines are even, and the deck lid is flush. Someone obviously took their time with this car.
This Plymouth carries a 360ci V8 motor under the hood. Even with all the shiny chrome in the engine bay, you can’t miss that tall Velocity stack on top! A polished A/C unit, alternator, intake, overflow tank, coils and Edelbrock carb are near blinding. The previous owner also includes chrome pulleys, a Mallory ignition, exhaust manifolds and electric fans on both the condenser and radiator.
The chassis is equally exceptional, full of wonderful details and flawless craftsmanship. The transmission is a 727, and it cruises easily at modern highway speeds, and there's a beefy Ford 8-inch out back. A GM A-body suspension has been grafted in the front and rear. The beautiful 2.5” aluminum exhaust system with Cherry Bomb mufflers was done with beautiful welds that will look great forever. Look closely and you will find the battery lugs underneath the driver seat, which will make jumping the trunk mounted battery much easier in case you ever need it. It appears as the gas tank is the original ’41. The frame, floors and fenders are rust free and mud free. The final detail are those Coker wide whites (14” front and 15” rear).
You're in for a special treat when you climb inside. The pink tweed interior is something you'll show off every chance you get. The door panels and headliner have a beautiful matching custom pattern. Creature comforts include a power driver seat and power windows. The body matching painted dash includes a set of VDO gauges, which sit in front of the beautiful wood Grant steering wheel. There is a B& M shifter in front of the fold down armrest. The spacious trunk is upholstered to match the purple carpets.
Great cars also include lots of paperwork, and this is most definitely a great car. The package includes a binder full of notes and receipts from the previous owner.
Take your time looking this one over, and I promise it'll grow on you. You could spend an afternoon with this car on a lift and still not see every trick and detail that has been thoughtfully built into it. It is also expertly engineered, and drives extremely well. You'll simply never get tired of sitting in that gorgeous interior. This is a stunning custom with exceptional detailing which will knock everyone out at the next cruise night. Cool customs simply don't get much better than this. Call now! Tom 248-974-9513
