Here’s a cool car all by itself – the Oldsmobile Cutlass convertible. Bright blue paint, beautiful chrome bumpers, 442 badging, a rear spoiler and a lower price tag than big brother 442s allowed for a heck of a punch for less coin. Not only is the car in great shape, but it has a ton of power, and it’s a drop-top to boot!
The medium blue metallic paint is glossy, the stripes are crisp, and the chrome bumpers are straight, clean and shiny. The fiberglass cowl hood is in excellent shape as are the hood locks. The 442 badges and stainless trim are beautiful. The door and trunk lips are solid, clean and rust free, the doors function properly and the margins are great. SS wheels with BF Goodrich Radial T/A’s grace the corners.
Twist the hood locks and raise the hood – that’s an Oldsmobile 455ci engine in there. Sitting on top is a cold air induction air cleaner. A nice coat of blue paint covers the motor while smooth satin black does the same for the rest of the compartment. There’s a new alternator, new wiper motor, and a new water pump. The clutch is out on the A/C compressor, but the hoses and condenser are all there. A new power booster and new master cylinder were included under the hood when the brake conversion kit was added to the car. The motor fires up willingly and runs great. Ready to cruise in this drop-top yet?
Mated to that huge 455 under the hood is a turbo 350 automatic transmission, and it shifts on the money. Out back you will find a new gas tank, 12 bolt rear end, and a Hotchkis sway bar and both upper and lower control arms. The exhaust system is newer and included beautiful new chrome trumpeted exhaust tips and Flowmaster mufflers. The u-joints are solid, the fuel lines are in great shape and there is an emergency brake cable as well. The brake system is upgraded with a conversion kit, including new spindles, calipers, power booster and master cylinder. The floorboards have some minor surface scale which has been painted with 415, and there are no visible patches. The frame is solid, with no pitting or rust, and the rockers are just as nice with visible pinch welds. The front suspension is awesome and has a solid sway bar. The under side of this Cutlass convertible is super clean!
Oldsmobile’s position within GM is reflected in its interior: Richer materials, nicer gauges and more comfortable seats set the mark a step above its sister brands. The pearl white interior is like brand new. Everything from the upholstery on the seats, to the carpet and the boot, this Cutlass is clean and comfortable. The gauges are surrounded by a wood grain dash, which matches the door panels. There is an aftermarket radio mounted under the dash, and it sounds awesome. There are seatbelts front and rear, so you can safely take the family for an afternoon cruise. Out back the solid trunk has a fresh mat and a spare tire, and the power top works awesome. I’m not sure you could ask for more!
