Smokey & the Bandit, Special Edition Y81-Y82 Numbers Matching Full Documentation

1977 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am

VIN 2W87K7N160503

Check out this rare, special edition "Bandit"! This is 1 of 180 Special Edition hardtops with an automatic transmission and 403 Olds V8 engine. This is the rarest of the Special Edition (SE) models made for 1977. It was Norwood built with California delivery. It was sold new in Fremont, California, and then made its way to Mesa, AZ. The drive train is all original and numbers matching! The engine and transmission were both rebuilt less than 150 miles ago with some mild performance upgrades.

The car is fully documented with all of the original manuals, dealer accessory brochure, Uniroyal tire warranty and most importantly, the original Build Sheet that is fully intact and completely readable. This car was special ordered as denoted on the Build Sheet.

2nd generation Trans Ams are quickly becoming some of the most sought after of the era. The Bandit TA was made famous by Burt Reynolds and Sally Field in the movie “Smokey and the Bandit”. Special thanks to Hal Needham for not jumping this one over the bridge!

History

The Pontiac Firebird is an automobile which was built by the Pontiac division of General Motors between 1967 and 2002. The Firebird was introduced the same year as the automaker's platform-sharing model, the Chevrolet Camaro. This coincided with the release of the 1967 Mercury Cougar, which shared its platform with another pony car, the Ford Mustang.

A distinctive, slant-nose facelift occurred in 1977, redone somewhat in 1979. From 1977 to 1981, the Firebird used four square headlamps. California and high-altitude cars received the Olds 403 engine, which offered a slightly higher compression ratio and a more usable torque band than the Pontiac engines of 1977. The 1977 Trans-Am Special Edition became famous after being featured in Smokey and the Bandit.
